Paul Tilley jumped from the 27th floor of the Fairmont Hotel/Chicago on Friday evening and tragically ended an advertising career that had catapulted him in a relatively few years to the top creative post at DDB/Chicago. Tilley's death at the age of 40 stunned the city's advertising community, even as many wondered openly -- and in private -- how someone who had achieved so much in a relatively short time could have taken his own life. .
Mandalay Bay President To Head $5B MGM AC Project
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS/AP) ― The president of the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas will oversee MGM Grand's massive $5 billion casino-hotel project in Atlantic City. The company announced Thursday morning that Bill Hornbuckle, Mandalay's president and chief operating officer, also will serve in the same capacity for MGM Grand Atlantic City, a three-tower complex to be built on land next to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in the city's Marina district. It is due to open in the first quarter of 2012. "We are going to be taking what the Borgata has done in terms of recreating the Las Vegas experience, and take it to a whole different place," Hornbuckle said. "We want this to be compelling enough for you to get on a plane in Chicago and fly east instead of west." A 25-year veteran of the gambling industry, Hornbuckle previously served as president and COO of MGM Mirage Europe, after spending three years as president and COO of MGM Grand Las Vegas.

When Jeremy Lycan stepped into the kitchen at the James Beard House, he followed in the footsteps of numerous young chefs, many of them from Chicago. "I feel like clearly there is great culinary talent in Chicago," says Izabela Wojcik, director of house programming for the James Beard House. "When you talk about traveling and what cities have to offer, Chicago is on the top of that list." Windy City chefs who have presented their menus at the Beard House include, in no particular order, Charlie Trotter of Charlie Trotter's, Paul Kahan of Blackbird, Graham Elliot Bowles of the Penninsula Hotel, Roland Liccioni of Le Francais, Martiel Noguier of 160blue, Homaro Cantu of Moto, Rick Tramanto and Gale Gand of Tru, Arun and Niramon Sampanthavivat of Arun's, Maneet Chauhan of Vermillion, Tony Mantuano of Spiaggia, Steve Chiapetti of Viand and Shawn McClain of Spring.
